Our Instructors
We could not provide training were it not for our gallant band of qualified intructors who give their time voluntarily. Unlike some other organisations, such as PADI where instructor training only starts after a diver has reached the highest diving grade, with BS-AC you can start training as an instructor from Sports Diver level by attending an "Instructor Foundation Course" although you cannot actually become fully qualified until you are a Dive Leader.
Rob Harris-Jones
Advanced Instructor
Rob learned to dive in Kuwait doing PADI Advanced Open Water and then joined the club and crossed over to BSAC.
Is now our senior instructor.
Became an Advanced Instructor in 2005 and was the Diving Officer for a number of years.
Petra Walker
Open Water Instructor
Petra joined the club in 2008. She learned to dive over 20 years ago and has dived mostly in the cold, dark, deep and murky waters around the UK. She enjoys sailing, water skiing and anything else to do with water. When not submersed, she's a Garden Designer and a Life Coach.
Gavin Walker
Open Water Instructor
Gavin learned to dive at University many years ago. He met Petra (above) when she was learning to dive and he was one of her dive leaders. He moved to Kuwait from South Korea in December 2007 to work for Alshaya in their Health and Beauty Division.
John Morley
Open Water Instructor
John learned to dive longer ago than he would care to remember, back in the days of home-made ABLJs and things like that. Says he is now on his second diving life!
John is also an enthusiastic sailor so gets the best of both worlds as bad diving weather is often ideal for sailing and vice versa.
Has served the club in many ways including training officer, treasurer and chairman.
Peter Lambie
Open Water Instructor
Peter joined the club in September 2005. Previously he was living in The Netherlands where he did all sorts of exciting diving such as in zero degree water!!
Has served time on the committee as Training Officer.
Jane Horton
Open Water Instructor
ane learned to dive with Rob doing PADI Advanced Open Water and then joined the club and crossed over to BSAC.
Has served her time as training officer on the committee.
A self-confessed "warm water diver"!
Ahmed Harbi
Open Water Instructor
Ahmed first qualified under IDEA and also, I think, then did Padi Advanced Open Water before crossing over to BSAC and completing his Sports Diver qualification.
Has served his time on the committee as equipment officer.
Ahmed is very useful on dive trips as, hailing from Egypt, he speaks fluent Arabic!
Mike Dalton
Open Water Instructor
When not diving Mike runs a heavy engineering workshop servicing the oil industry mainly. So he can easily get bits of welding, galvanizing and other modifications etc. done for the club equipment.
Served a long stretch on the committee as Membership Secretary and then Training Officer. Has recently also taken on the role of Chairman
Dave Bamber
Open Water Instructor
Dave is an Advance Diver who has recently joined the club. He has already contributed to the training.
Works as the manager of a vehicle maintenance workshop.
David Throp

Served on the committee for a brief time as equipment officer before work commitments got in the way.
Ken Barker
Assistant Diving Instructor
Ken learned to dive with his wife Kathryn with the club in Kuwait. He quickly progressed to Dive Leader before the responsibilities of new fatherhood spelled a temporary halt to his diving. Attended the Instructor Foundation Course but family commitments prevented his attending the follow-up courses and exams.
Has served his time on the committee as membership secretary.
