'Ocean Diver Course'
This is BSAC's entry level diving course. It qualifies you to dive to a maximum depth of 20 metres and to dive with another Ocean Diver as a buddy. It also qualifies you to dive using Nitrox 32 or Nitrox 36 using air tables or a computer set to air.

Students need to provide their own mask, fins and snorkel for this course but the club provides all other equipment.

The fifteen pounds is for the cost of the nitrox qualification card from BS-AC. Payment is made direct to BSAC by submitting credit or debit card details. Sports divers taking this workshop should not apply for the card until they have also completed the Sports Diver Nitrox Workshop.
This workshop covers the new nitrox content of the 2007 BS-AC Ocean Diver Course. Ocean divers qualified on the pre-2007 syllabus may attend this workshop and gain a BS-AC Nitrox Diver qualification. They must attend this workshhop of they wish to proceed to Sports Diver on the 2007 syllabus. The same applies to pre-2007 Sports Divers wishing to take the 2007 Dive Leader course.
The course is entirely theory-based with a theory test to follow. Club members can download the student notes and other resources from the members' section of this site.
This qualifies Ocean Divers to dive with the two standard mixes of Nitrox 32 or Nitrox 36 using air tables or an air computer hence benefiting from an increased safety margin. It is worth adding a note of caution here. Ocean Divers are only qualified to dive to 20 metres. However it is often tempting to exceed this limit on holiday dives. It is most important that the depth limit is not exceeded while breathing nitrox. Using nitrox at greater depths is potentially hazardous and is not covered until the Sports Diver course.

This qualifies Sports Divers to conduct planned decompression dives with a single nitrox mix up 40% using nitrox tables or a nitrox computer. To progress further students should attend an advanced nitrox skills development course.
